 Bama BuddiesBama Buddies

As a campus-wide service project, Bama Buddies allows organizations to buy, create, and donate personalized stuffed animals for local children. In addition to providing the monetary and stuffed animal donations, this project also fosters communication and collaboration among diverse student organizations.  Service Learning Pro

Service Learning Pro is a comprehensive web-based database through which all stakeholders in the service process – including community partners, students, faculty and staff – can communicate and organize these important relationships. SLPro connects UA students to all volunteer opportunities in Tuscaloosa and to service learning classes at the University of Alabama. By registering and logging in to the system, you will be able to: browse available volunteer opportunities in Tuscaloosa and beyond, register for community service projects online, track your service hours, and much more! Visit slpro.ua.edu or click the logo above.

Here are some details about SL Pro stipulations:

Service projects that your organization should list in SL Pro include one-time or ongoing efforts which dedicate time toward the benefit of the community, with the primary purpose of the project being service, rather than philanthropy or social events. Projects listed by your group in SL Pro must be sponsored by your organization, rather than a community agency. In addition, the projects must involve students spending time benefitting the community rather than making a donation to attend a philanthropic event. We understand that your members participate in service to the benefit of philanthropic organizations; therefore, members who actively participate in service will be able to log the time spent with these projects. However, those who contribute via donations or merely attend the event should not log hours in SL Pro. Examples of projects that will be approved and disapproved are included below.

Projects that will be approved in SL Pro: Events that members of your organization serve to put on (i.e. charitable 5Ks hosted by your group, Alabama Dance Marathon, carnivals for kids, etc.); volunteer efforts that involve students serving in their community (i.e. partnership walks with blind persons, health education initiatives, get out the vote drives, tutoring, etc.)

Projects that will not be approved in SL Pro: Events for which participants make a charitable donation to attend (i.e. Crawfish Boils, Cookouts, Bar Nights, etc.) as well as projects hosted by a community agency or group other than your organization (i.e. Habitat for Humanity Builds which are sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa). Note: projects hosted by a community agency, like Habitat for Humanity, are already listed by the community agency. Your members should simply select to “apply hours to” your organization when they volunteer via a community agency and log service hours from this project in SL Pro.
